Hitex International, a leading global provider of road safety and surface treatment solutions, has extended its Puma range of MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) road safety marking and coloured textured surfacing materials with the introduction of PumaBrite and PumaSpray. These innovative products are engineered to achieve the highest levels of retroreflectivity, durability, adhesion and colour stability in a wide range of road marking applications around the world.

According to Hitex Traffic Safety: “We designed these new products to meet the specific needs of road maintenance crews in a wide range of environments. These new road marking products are quick to install and will enable significant productivity improvements to be achieved whilst minimising delays to traffic whilst works are completed.”

PumaBrite is available in a range of performance levels for type 1 flat line standard markings or type 2 profiled, structured wet night markings. It is quick and easy to apply either by machine extrusion or hand screed and offers catalyst-controlled curing in around 10-30 minutes depending on ambient temperatures. Highly resistant to discolouration, PumaBrite is tough and durable with a long service life in a wide range of applications including centre, edge line and junctions along with letters, arrows and other road marking symbols. It is also ideal for smaller scale works such as car parks, factory and safety markings.

“The speed with which PumaBrite and PumaSpray can be installed enables our road crews to achieve even higher levels of productivity and complete works faster,” added Dave Oswald, MD of Central Traffic Management Limited (CTM), a leading UK-based provider of road management solutions. “These new products also provide a cost effective solution for works of any size and complexity.”

PumaSpray is applied by machine spray and is designed to rapidly recover the performance levels of existing profiled markings or as an economical thin layer marking.

The Hitex Puma range can be modified for use in any climate and is available in white or yellow as standard. Other colours are available on request.

Hitex North America, a division of Hitex International, completed the installation of a rainbow crossing in time for the Vancouver Pride Festival that took place during the first week of August. Commissioned by the City of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada, the rainbow crossing is situated on the route of the Vancouver Pride Parade, which took place on August 6 and featured rainbow-coloured floats, marching bands and people in all kinds of colourful, exotic and sometimes unconventional costumes.

The material used for the crossing point was PumaTrack, a new modified MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) surface treatment that is easy to install using a squeegee and roller. PumaTrack is available in a wide range of standard and custom colours. It provides catalyst-controlled curing in 10-30 minutes to reduce traffic congestion. The installation included 8 different colours and took place in the evening over a 5 hour period.

“We are pleased to have been selected by the City of Vancouver to install this colourful crossing point for such a high profile event,” commented Ray Flores, Business Development Manager for Hitex NA. “It will be a permanent reminder of the festival as well as demonstrating how PumaTrack is engineered to deliver the highest levels of durability, adhesion and colour stability in any temperature environment for a long service life.”

The Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival celebrated its 39th anniversary in 2017 and reflects the spirit of the LGBTQ2+ community. Organisers estimated between 500,000 and 650,000 people packed the downtown core for the parade, Sunset Beach festival and associated events.
